This post is about an awesome little ski resort not too far from Kanazawa, Taira Ski Park. It’s super close to Ainokura, one of the Gokayama World Heritage places, and about a 1 hour 30 min from Kanazawa. There are only a few lifts, but it makes up for it. The snow is great. Being far enough away from the ocean and high enough, the snow quality is real good. And the prices are cheap. Full day about 3000 yen, and half day (morning or afternoon) about 2000 yen.
There is a dope little cafe called Yaman. Cool place to relax, get a cup of coffee, or a great lunch. There are also a few rooms to stay in, and a little onsen as well. The rental shop is good too, so if your traveling from out of town and don’t have all your gear, you could definitely get hooked up.
Taira is only accessible by car though. So if your driving from Takayama / Shirakawago to Kanazawa, and wanna hit up the slopes, Taira is a great spot.
