“PROPO” is a 3 man paint team in Kanazawa. The guys, Takuya, Yohei, and Kacchi have been painting together since 2010. All with their own days jobs and background in architecture and design, they paint everything from indoor and outdoor murals to live paint at clubs in their free time. Their name “PROPO” is the Japanese word for a remote controlled car’s controller. The name goes with the original reason the team got together, which was they wanted to transmit art waves/data/frequencies. Their style is like mathematical graffiti, with great color and lines, always appealing to the eye. When the team first started, they used only Posca markers. When asked why, Takuya says, “Posca was easy to paint with in the club. You could paint in rhythm with the music.” They have since moved on to painting some murals around town as well as the inside of restaurants and shops. PROPO will continue to paint, and while being true to their roots continue to get bigger and grow as a paint team. They want to see more people in the city who are looking for this kind of art that isn’t on the surface of Kanazawa. There are three places in the city to see their work. One is the coffee shop “one one otta”, another is the Italian restaurant Scala, and the third is close to the station, in front of “Castle Inn”. So whether you’re at an outdoor event in the city, or enjoying a night club, you might very well see PROPO painting.
