“For starters, MAO is a misreading of “Once A Month.” This was gonna be called OAM, but I decided to flip it and call it MAO. The first floor of my shop is a cafe, and recently we have been collaborating with NigiNigi, a catering group run by two females. We were always talking about doing something interesting at the shop. The second floor here is actually my work space, so we decided to use it for something once a month.

“Thinking on what to do, there are a lot of live painters around in Kanazawa, so we decided to have them paint directly on one of the blank walls here and show their art live.

“And from this, hopefully more and more customers will see live painting going on and get a new taste of Tatemachi, which is seeing less and less customers recently. And my hope is that this will bring some more life back into this part of town.”
